Congratulations to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for winning Sweden's Player of the Year Award. In what now appears a birth-right for Zlatan, who has won the Swedish Guldbollen (Golden Ball) for 10 consecutive years, and 11 times in total, it did not then come as a shock to most soccer fans that the Manchester United player, was once named the winner of this year's award.
Let's take a trip down memory lane to what the World looked like 11 years ago, the last time Zlatan failed to win the Swedish Guldbollen;
1. In 2006, the year Zlatan didn't win the award; Fredrik Ljunberg of Arsenal was the winner
2. Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, was just 9 years old, and Raheem Sterling was not even a teenager.
3. Gareth Bale, made his first professional appearance for Southampton as a 16-year-old
4. Benni McCarthy, was more prolific that Cristiano Ronaldo, and Didier Drogba topped the Premier League scoring chart with 20 goals, with Benni McCarthy is 2nd place with 18 goals, Ronaldo with 17 goals, and Wayne Rooney had 14, with Robin Van Persie having scored 11 goals.
