Former Chelsea midfielder,and Super Eagles captain; John Mikel Obi, has received the sum of £2million (N1.1billion)his former club Chelsea, as severance pay. Mikel spent 10years at the English side, before leaving the club in the January transfer window to sign for Chinese Super League side, Tianjin TEDA.As a sign of appreciation for the 10years he spent in England, the Stamford Bridge club has now paid him off his wages for the remaining six months of his deal. Mikel who played a total of 374 games for the Blues, and winning 11 major trophies, is now the highest-paid Nigerian footballer, having signed a £140,000 per-week contract with TEDA.
