The Gunners looked on course to keep in touch with leaders Leicester City, when Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez struck inside 35 minutes to put the visitors in firm control at Upton Park.
Carroll's treble turned the game around and gave West Ham an edge over the Gunners, but it was soon to be leveled when Arsenal's captain Laurent Koscielny, hit back in the 70th minute, rescuing a point for the Gunners.
