Following the World number 1's recovery from a shoulder injury, which she has been battling with, a major decider of her early exit from the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and subsequent withdrawal from the Cincinnati tournament last week, her coach has come out to debunk every rumor regarding her fitness and readiness ahead for the US Opens.
Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, said - " Serena is pain-free", she has been pain-free for a few days now" - he told ESPN on Sunday. " The shoulder is still 100 percent, but it's very close and she will find a way. She has a lot more to her game than just the serve - she has the power and mental strength. She wanted to play the Olympics in Rio, it was very important for her, but her shoulder was killing her. She was just putting balls in play, that's the best part".
The World number 1, is seeking to set a record of 23 Grand Slams in the modern era when the tournament begins. She is equally seeking a record seventh title in New York, and will be facing Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, the world number 36 on Tuesday when the tournament begins.
